Bharat Malkani elected as president, federation of hotels, restaurants

fiogf49gjkf0d Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association of India (FHRAI), at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held recently, elected Bharat Malkani, managing director, Hotel Transit, Mumbai, as the president of the federation.
Prior to being elected as president of FHRAI, Malkani was president of Hotel and Restaurant Association of Western India (HRAWI) and vice-president of FHRAI’s outgoing executive committee. While T S Walia, former president, FHRAI, has been appointed the new VP, Luv Malhotra, jt managing director, CHL Hotels, and Syama Raju, managing director, Hotel Maurya, Bangalore, will continue to hold the VP’s post for another term.
“The association has completed 50 years and has made substantial progress in these years for the betterment of hospitality industry. The next decade will have to be strategically defined and we will orient ourselves to addressing issues that affect the industry the most. The federation will take up the hotel classification issue with the government as a priority. We feel that the classification job should be given to the industry experts which is the practice world over,” says Malkani, the newly-elected president.
“We believe strongly in the India growth story and want to be partners of growth in India Inc. So we will do what it takes to back the bigger objective of making tourism one of the pillars of prosperity in the country. From time to time we will engage with the various government agencies and bodies to constructively create new methodologies for the development of the industry,” he adds.
Vivek Nair, CMD, Hotel Leela Ventures, has been elected as honorary secretary. Garish Oberoi and K Murali Rao will be the joint secretaries,and Sudesh Poddar, the treasurer of the federation. The legal committee of the federation will be headed by Pradeep Shetty, while the classification committee will be headed by Nirav Gandhi. S M Shervani is the new constitution committee head.
