CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysuru, has now embarked on an exercise to integrate farmers, food industry and science. In this regard, it has inked a pact with Raithamitra Farmers Producer Company Ltd, Mysuru, and NutriPlanet Foods Pvt. Ltd, in the presence of former Mysuru mayor Purushotham.

From among the two companies, Raithamitra Farmers Producer Company Ltd has integrated farmer groups from across Karnataka state to produce White Chia and Quinoa, the seeds that the institute recently released to farmers from across the nation. The agro-technology for the released seeds established by CSIR-CFTRI has rendered these crops popular with farmers owing to their ease of cultivation, comfortable management and good yield.

The other company, NutriPlanet Foods Pvt. Ltd will be associating with Raithamitra Farmers Producer Company Ltd for purchasing White Chia seeds and Quinoa seeds at an agreed price. The produce will be used for food product manufacturing as well as marketing the seeds for direct consumption, both nationally and internationally. NutriPlanet Foods Pvt. Ltd is developing advanced nutrition products such as nutribars, encapsulated chia seed oil and others with the support of CSIR-CFTRI.

CSIR-CFTRI will also provide continuous agro-technology and research support to scaleup crop production.

“The collaboration is aimed to ignite a strong transformation to help transcend farming from an occupation to a successful profession. A synergy among scientists, farmers and the industry is the way forward for national growth and to develop better population health by having advanced nutrition products available through the industry. CSIR-CFTRI aspires to join hands with farmers and industry to champion mission "Make in India" in the space of nutrition security for the nation,” sums up Prof. Ram Rajasekharan, director, CFTRI, while speaking to FnB News about the project.
