fiogf49gjkf0d Ministry of food processing industries (MoFPI), at a press meet held here on Tuesday, announced sanctioning of 17 new Mega Food Parks.
The parks are likely to register investment of around Rs 2,000 crore in modern infrastructure, additional collective investment of around Rs 4,000 crore in 500 food processing units in the parks and an annual turnover of Rs 8,000 crore. These parks, when fully functional, will create employment for about 80,000 persons and benefit about five lakh farmers directly and indirectly.
Total of 42 mega parks have been sanctioned by the government across the country. Currently 25 mega parks are under various stages of implementation while 17 new suitable proposals from 11 states have been approved by the ministry, according to Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Union minister for food processing industries.
“Through this, government will create huge modern infrastructure for food processing sector and provide impetus to the growth of the sector. These 17 new mega parks are likely to attract more investments in this sector while generating employment and benefits to farmers,” stated Badal.
She added that the ministry would monitor closely so that the project is completed in time - 30 months.
“We want every state to have at least two-three mega food parks,” she remarked. With sanctioning of these parks, now 22 states in the country will have Mega Food Parks.
