The Uttarakhand Government has directed the state officials to submit an immediate effective working plan to request the Central Government for the establishment of State Agrihorti Academy, Centre of Excellence in Pantnagar, for training and research for processing, packaging and capacity building in the field of agriculture and horticulture in Uttarakhand.
The decision was taken in a recent meeting headed by Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami.
Later, the Chief Minister placed the demands before visiting Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj S Chauhan.
On seeking cooperation of Rs 1,150 crore for the highly intensive horticulture of apples in the state, the Union Minister said that a proposal for its annual action plan should be prepared and sent. The Union Minister said that under the Kiwi Mission, cooperation will be given to set up a Centre of Excellence in the state.
Chauhan also assured full cooperation for the Centre of Excellence for honey, mushroom and exotic vegetables. When support was sought for Dragon Fruit Mission and Himalayan Academy for Capacity Building and Rural Enterprises for Agri and Allied, the Union Minister assured all possible support.
CM Dhami, meanwhile, said that Junghrayal/Jhangora (barnyard millet) is the main traditional crop in the state, which is being produced in an area of 38,000 hectare, and in the interest of farmers, minimum support price should be declared for Jhangora on the lines of Mandua.
On this, the Union Minister assured to consider positively. He also assured cooperation to make the State Seed Production Institute a pulses, oilseeds and seed hub.
The Union Agriculture Minister said that all the works sought for support from the state in the meeting will be taken forward at a fast pace.
Further the state government has sought help from the Union Agriculture Ministry to recognise the ‘House of Himalayas’.
The Chief Minister requested the Union Minister to give recognition to ‘House of Himalayas Limited’ as GI brand which helps market agri produce of Uttarakhand Hills and support for empowering the women self-help groups associated with it.
'To take these initiatives to the national level, a team from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development from the Centre will come and work with the state to make a detailed plan', said Chauhan
