Friday, 04 January, 2019, 08 : 00 AM [IST]
Ashwani Maindola, New Delhi
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has invited proposals for the establishment of mega food parks (MFPs) under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojna in the states and Union Territories (UTs) that do not have any mega food park allocations so far.

It directed promoters from all the uncovered states (Goa, Manipur, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Tamil Nadu) and UTs to submit their applications by 5pm on February 9, 2019. In this regard, it has issued a notice seeking applications from the investors.

The notice stated, “MoFPI is inviting proposals/expressions of interest (EoIs) from the potential promoters for setting up MFPs in the country. Proposals received for setting up mega food parks in the uncovered states and all the UTs against the vacancies available for the project will be considered.”

The ministry further added that if no proposal is received from these uncovered states, proposals for states having mega parks, including Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Chattishgarh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura, will be considered.

It is pertinent to mention here that MoFPI envisaged building 42 mega parks in the country. However, currently, only 13 MFPs have been operationalised. These are located in Chittoor (Andhra Pradesh), Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar (Uttarakhand), Tumkur (Karnataka), Fazilka (Punjab), Nalbari (Assam), Khargone (Madhya Pradesh), Ranchi (Jharkhand), Murshidabad (West Bengal), Rayagada (Odisha), Satara (Maharashtra), Ajmer (Rajasthan) and Surat (Gujarat) are operational.

Meanwhile, the ministry’s notice stated that the promoters can submit their proposals as per the Mega Food Park Scheme Guidelines dated July 21, 2016. The pre-meeting bid in this regards will take place at the Ministry in New Delhi at 11am on January 8, 2019.
