Abhitash Singh, Mumbai
The Chamber for Advancement of Small & Medium Businesses (CASMB) celebrated its 5th Foundation Day with grandeur and purpose at the prestigious event titled ‘Sankalp 2025’ at Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. The event brought together key stakeholders from the government, industry, and regulatory bodies, united under a common vision to strengthen India’s food processing, nutraceuticals, and spices sector while empowering small and medium enterprises.

The chief guest for the occasion was Sanjay Savkhare, Minister of Textiles, Government of India, who emphasised the government's commitment to enhancing the ease of doing business and facilitating export-driven growth in food and textile-related industries.

Savkhare said, “We are building frameworks to support innovation, quality, and sustainability across agro and food processing. The MSME sector is central to India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat dream.”

Meghana Bordikar, Minister of State (Public Health, Water Supply & Sanitation, Energy, Women & Child Development, and Public Works), Government of Maharashtra, lauded the efforts of CASMB in bridging the gap between policy and grassroots entrepreneurs. “Food safety, child nutrition, and clean water are not just health goals but socio-economic indicators. Through collective Sankalp, we aim to uplift both rural and urban Maharashtra,” she noted.

Adding to the strength of the panel was Hemant Patil, Member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council and Chairman of the Turmeric Research and Training Centre in Hingoli shared insights on promoting turmeric from Maharashtra and other regions globally.

Patil said, “Turmeric is not just a spice it is a wellness powerhouse. With the Haldi Board, we aim to make India the turmeric capital of the world,” he asserted.

The event also witnessed participation from Sanjay Mariwala, managing director, Omniactive Health Technologies, as guest of honour. He emphasised innovation in nutraceuticals and food science, encouraging start-ups and MSMEs to tap into global opportunities. “India can lead the world in clean-label, plant-based, and functional foods — provided the industry works hand-in-hand with regulators,” he said.

Senior regulator Hemant Koshia, Commissioner, FDCA Gujarat, and Rajesh Narvekar, FDA Commissioner, Maharashtra, underscored the importance of quality compliance and digital transformation in regulatory mechanisms. Both appreciated the efforts of the FSSAI’s Western Region team, who have been actively enabling smoother licensing, consumer safety, and food audits.

The event was enriched by contributions from well-known industry veterans including Prabodh Halde, Nilesh Lele, and Umesh Kamble, who reiterated CASMB’s pivotal role in nurturing dialogue and creating policy awareness across sectors such as spices, dairy, fortified foods, and traditional health products.

Sankalp 2025 emerged not just as an event but as a strategic call to action to create a resilient, export-ready, and innovation-driven food and spice ecosystem, rooted in India’s traditions and aligned with global standards.
