Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), under the Nandini brand, has introduced 18 new products across three categories -- slices cake, bar cake and muffins -- to the market on the occasion of the World Milk Day observed on June 1, annually. This year’s theme being celebrating the vital role dairy plays in delivering quality nutrition to nourish the world.
Every year to mark the occasion, KMF's 16 milk unions across the state, responsible for procuring milk from primary dairy cooperative societies (DCS) and distributing milk and dairy products to consumers, conducts awareness programmes in schools, anganwadis and even orphanages about milk.
The product expansion highlights KMF's efforts to diversify its dairy-based offerings and cater to evolving consumer tastes while reinforcing the role of dairy in daily nutrition.
The introduction of these new products aligns with this year’s theme: ‘Celebrating the vital role dairy plays in delivering quality nutrition to nourish the world.’ It is emphasising dairy's contribution not just through milk, but through innovative, value-added products that bring convenience and nutrition together.
The company noted that the move marks a significant expansion in its bakery portfolio, which until now included only bread, buns, and cream buns. With the introduction of 18 new products such as slice cakes, bar cakes, and muffins, KMF aims to meet the growing consumer demand for convenient, ready-to-eat dairy-based options. This strategic diversification reflects KMF's commitment to innovation and its focus on delivering nutritious, shelf-stable snacks aligned with modern lifestyles.
This year, they conducted a paneer cooking competition in the wake of rising adulteration cases of paneer. Over 30 participants across the state participated and the winner Mahalakshmi was awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000, Vishika Keshav from Mangaluru won a cash prize of Rs 30,000 and 13 year old Vinodini was awarded Rs 20,000 for the third place for her unique paneer bomb recipe.
According to B Shivaswamy, managing director, Karnataka Milk Federation, the per capita consumption of milk according to the Federation’s data under circulation is 240 ml in the state. "This is where we see the need to increase the milk consumption and create an awareness about milk consumption. People must be encouraged to consume milk be as itself, curds or even cream," he said.
While customers often complain about lack of availability of newly launched products, especially whey protein and idli-dosa batter, the officials of KMF assured that the 18 new products are well in stock and will be available everywhere. "We have begun placements last week and that are available in all the outlets," the Federation stated.
