IIM-B to host workshop on sustainable agri-food supply chains in India

The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B) will host a one-day workshop on building sustainable agri-food supply chains in India on December 16, 2016. The theme of the conference is technology in supply chain management.

It is a part of the fifth biennial supply chain management conference, jointly organised by the Airbus Group Endowed Chair for Sourcing and Supply Management at IIM-B and the Supply Chain Management Centre at IIM-B on December 15 and 16, 2016.

The workshop will facilitate developing a network and a knowledge base for sharing and exchanging expertise between India and the United Kingdom for creating sustainable agricultural supply chains in India.

The event will bring together policy makers, academics and scientists, agribusiness representatives from agro and retail industries, agricultural and horticultural growers, supply chain management practitioners and academics, and consumers to present and discuss three focus areas of sustainable agri-food supply chain management in India: natural resources such as land, water and genetic resources and coping with climate change; achieving sustainable production practices and building information-rich agri-food value chains; and making agri markets work.

Krishna Byre Gowda, Karnataka’s minister of state for agriculture, will deliver the inaugural address, while Ramesh Chand, member, NITI Aayog, will deliver the keynote address.

IIM Ahmedabad professor G Raghuram will speak on issues in assessing performance of sustainable agri-food supply chains.

The workshop will also feature a session on management of natural resources – land, water and coping with climate change by S Ayyappan, ex-secretary, DARE, and director general, ICAR, ICRISAT’s K V Raju and IARI’s Naresh Kumar.

There will be a session on achieving sustainable production practices. Gopal Naik, professor, IIM Bangalore, R D Muley of Sri Sri Institute of Agricultural Sciences and Technology Trust, and Sunil G Awari, general manager, Namdhari Seeds will be the speakers.

The session on the role of agri markets in making agri-food supply chains sustainable will feature Manoj Rajan, additional secretary, cooperation, managing director and chief executive officer, ReMS; Vikram Ogale, director, national supply chain and quality assurance, McDonald's India; Ganesh Sundararaman, chief operating officer, staples and snacks business, ITC Foods, and Dr Ashish Dwivedi, University of Hull, United Kingdom.
