Groundbreaking solutions emerge at Ninjacart's agri-tech hackathon

Walmart-backed Ninjacart, India's leading agri-startup that leverages technology and data to organise the global agriculture ecosystem, hosted the nation's biggest agri-tech hackathon, where talented minds converged from across the country to present groundbreaking solutions for pressing agricultural challenges.

Ninjacart Hackathon, India’s premier open to all agri-tech event, drew participation from 175 teams across the nation, offering a total prize pool of Rs 1.75 lakhs. The competition centred on tackling vital challenges within Indian agriculture, encapsulated in four key problem statements:

Recommendation Pattern for Farmers: Teams were tasked with developing AI-driven recommendation systems to analyse extensive datasets on weather patterns, soil health, crop genetics, and market trends, providing personalized guidance to farmers. Finance Risk Assessment Models for MSMEs: Participants were challenged to create sophisticated financial risk assessment models for MSMEs in the agriculture sector, leveraging data analytics and machine learning.

Farmer Management Software- Traceability and Monitoring in Farmer Ecosystem: Teams were asked to build comprehensive farmer management software integrating traceability and real-time monitoring capabilities. Enhancing Commerce Through ONDC and Matchmaking: Leveraging the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), participants were tasked with designing innovative solutions to enhance commerce in the agri-tech sector.

After multiple rounds of evaluation and ideation, 15 teams encompassing of 50 participants were selected for the 36-hour hackathon held at its headquarters in Bengaluru. Participants underwent rigorous evaluation based on factors such as novelty, execution, and attitude. Projects were assessed not only for their originality and innovation but also for their feasibility and scalability. The finalists exhibited and presented their solutions to a jury who then shortlisted the top 3 winners of the hackathon.

The all-girls’ team from Kurukshetra University, Haryana was declared winners of the Hackathon 2024, for their project on Farmer Management Software: Traceability and Monitoring in Farmer Ecosystem. The first runners were students from Sri Eshwar College of Engineering, Coimbatore for their project on Revolutionising Plant Management and Enhancing Farming Efficiency. Additionally, three teams were equally declared second runners-up.
