FSSAI gazettes tolerance limit of kids supplements, stds for oats

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a gazette notification on the amendment to tolerance limit of formulated supplements for children and standards for oats products.
Called, Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Fourth Amendment Regulations, 2021, the notification says that ‘a variation of minus 10.0 per cent from the declared value of the nutrients or nutritional ingredients on the label shall be allowed and the nutrient levels shall not exceed maximum limits as specified in the composition tables’.
This was related to the method of sampling and analysis for tolerance limit of formulated supplements for children.
Previously the tolerance limit for variation in formulated supplements for children during analysis of samples of finished products was fixed at ‘not be more than ±10.0 per cent from the declared value of the nutrients or nutritional ingredients on the label’.
About oats products, the notification also lays that it means the product containing oats as the major ingredient including oat bran, oat flour, oatmeal, oat-trim, kilned de-hulled oats, steel cut oats, oat flakes (various thickness, which may make them instant, quick cooking or whole oats) etc. These may be made by using various processes such as kilning, drying, rolling, slitting, cutting, steel cutting, gritting, de-hulling, flaking, grinding and so on.
On parameters, the notification says that moisture shouldn’t be more than 12% by mass for both rolled/flaked oats and products containing oats. For rolled oats, the protein content should not be less than 10% and not more than 2.0% crude fibre on a dry mass basis.
