FSSAI extends compliance date for feeds meant for meat & milk animals
Monday, 19 July, 2021, 08 : 00 AM [IST]
Ashwani Maindola, New Delhi
The FSSAI has decided to extend the date of compliance for the direction it had issued in January 2020 on commercial feeds and feed material intended for meat and milk producing animals.

The new timeline for the compliance with the provisions has been fixed for January 1, 2022, but for those businesses whose applications for licence or registration was under process due to Covid-19 pandemic.

The January 2020 direction asks for a Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) specification for compounded feed for cattle (IS 2052:2009) and directed that such products should carry a BIS certification mark on the label.

The direction also laid a timeline for the compliance and asked the businesses to comply with these provisions by July 1, 2021.

Meanwhile, the current FSSAI order says that it has been decided to extend the timeline for compliance of the provisions of the January 2020 direction for those businesses whose applications for BIS certification or licensing of their product (compounded cattle feed) was under process.

The decision was taken after the food authority got representation requesting for extension of the time for compliance on account of difficulties faced in obtaining the BIS certification during the prevailing pandemic.
