The FSSAI has issued an order for de-recognition and de-notification of in-house testing laboratories of food business operators. The order says that conflict of interest makes the labs unviable as company’s directors are part of the management teams of such labs.
FSSAI notifies laboratories under Section 43(1) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, as primary food testing laboratories.
The order reads, “The food authority has decided that in-house testing laboratories of any FBO shall not be notified by FSSAI because of reasons like conflict of interest, location of such labs within manufacturing area of FBO, presence of directors of FBO in the constitution of Board of Management and difficulty in regular monitoring and verification of minor details of the in-house laboratory.”
Meanwhile FSSAI has initiated the process of de-notification of all such laboratories.
According to the food authority, it has de-notified the in-house laboratories of M/s ITC Foods Pvt Ltd Agri Business Division - ILTD, Spices Laboratory, Guntur and Nutralytica Research Private Limited, Nashik vide October, 2022.
And, the food authority added that similarly, all other remaining in-house testing laboratories of FBOs will be de-notified in due course of time.
