India and Italy have decided to enhance cooperation in the agri and processed food sector wherein sustainable value chains in the area of food processing will be key priority.
An MoU was also signed between the two countries for greater cooperation in agriculture.
The decision to cooperate in the field of agriculture and food processing was taken in the 22nd session of the India-Italy Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation (JCEC) held in Brescia, Italy, co-chaired by Indian Minister for Trade and Commerce Piyush Goyal and Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani.
The two countries have also identified agri-machinery, food packaging technologies as the sub-sector within the agri-processing sector for larger cooperation and achieving sustainable goals.
“India and Italy resolved to strengthen cooperation in agriculture and food processing, and to set up Joint Working Groups in the automobile and space sectors. Both sides identified collaboration opportunities in sustainable agri-value chains, agri-machinery, food packaging technologies, and renewable energy. They also agreed to work together in areas such as green hydrogen and biofuels and expressed intent to facilitate movement of skilled professionals between the two countries,” reads an official statement by the Ministry of Commerce.
The JCEC witnessed participation from senior officials, policymakers, and stakeholders from both sides.
According to the Ministry of Commerce, “the dialogue reaffirmed the strategic economic partnership between the two nations and aligns with the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025–29 to promote economic resilience, industrial partnerships, and inclusive, sustainable growth.”
