The focus is on sourcing high-quality indigenous ingredients to ensure authenticity and relevance in fragrance formulations. "By incorporating locally sourced ingredients, we aim to create products that capture the essence of India's rich olfactory heritage," explains Shaheel T T P, managing director, India and South Asia, Takasago International Corporation (TIC), in conversation with FnB News and shares the company’s future plans for the country.

Japan-based TIC is engaged in the manufacture and marketing of flavours, fragrances, aroma chemicals and fine chemicals. In India, Takasago is represented by Takasago International India Pvt. Ltd. (TII) and is based in Chennai. By nature of the business, TII’s customers include multi-national, large Indian business houses and MSME players in the FMCG segments in India. Takasago had invested in India and set up its own facility in Chennai in 2017 for Creation (R&D), Marketing and Manufacturing of flavour and fragrance (F&F) products. Since its inception in India in 2014, TII’s customers include multi-national, large Indian business houses and MSME players in the FMCG segments in India.

Shaheel elaborated on the centre's mission, stating, "Our new Mumbai centre is dedicated to understanding and embracing the diverse preferences of Indian consumers when it comes to flavours and fragrances. By collaborating closely with local fragrance experts, perfumers, and consumers, we aim to develop fragrances that capture the essence of India's rich olfactory heritage."

With a focus on agility and innovation, the TIIFC will accelerate the creation of new and trendy fragrances tailored specifically for the Indian beauty market. Through agile prototyping and collaborative partnerships with Indian beauty brands, Takasago aims to deliver unique fragrance experiences that resonate with consumers across the country.

Furthermore, sustainability is a cornerstone of Takasago's vision for the Mumbai centre, Shaheel emphasised the company's commitment to exploring the use of sustainable and ethically sourced ingredients in fragrance creation, aligning with the growing global concern for environmental responsibility.

The launch of the TIIFC marks a significant milestone in TIC's journey to become a leader in fragrance innovation in India. With its state-of-the-art facilities and unwavering dedication to consumer satisfaction, Takasago is poised to redefine the Indian beauty market and set new standards of excellence in fragrance development.
