The export of oilmeals during June 2018 was provisionally reported at 1,66,833 tonne compared to 2,51,124 tonne in June 2017. The overall export between April and June 2018 was reported at 6,54,774 tonne compared to 5,99,346 tonne during the same period of last year, i e up by nine per cent.
This was stated by Solvent Extractors’ Association of India, which compiled the data for the export of oilmeals for the month of June 2018. The export of rapeseed meal sharply increased to nearly 1,35,000 tonne (90 per cent) in the first three months, mainly exported to South Korea and Thailand.
The ongoing trade dispute between the United States and China has created a lot of uncertainty, forcing China to look out to other origins for their requirements of soybean and oilmeals.
China has been compelled to relook the ban it imposed on the import of oilmeals from India since 2012. This will open up the Chinese market for India. Of course, this is subject to clarification about the phytosanitary certificate for the export of oilmeals from India.
The Association has requested the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India to seek clarification from China’s AQSI Q authority about the phytosanitary certificate conditions.
Prior to the ban in 2012, China used to import nearly half-a-million tonne of oilmeals, viz 3.5 to 4 lakh tonne of rapeseed meal and one lakh tonne of soybean meal from India.
