Anand Sweets strengthens retail presence with outlet at Kempegowda Airport

Nandita Vijay, Bengaluru
Anand Sweets & Savouries has now strengthened its retail presence with an  outlet at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. This follows after travel to both international and domestic destinations is seeing robust demand, along with increasing spends on food and dining experiences, making airport retail a lucrative avenue for growth.

"Airports faced a major setback during the outbreak of Covid-19, but we have seen a robust recovery on the back of trends like ‘revenge tourism’, which have people stepping out for the first time in nearly two years. Anand has seen consistent growth in the airport retail segment in the last two financial years, with over 77% growth in sales from FY22 to FY23 (until Jan)," said Arvind Dadu, managing director, Anand Sweets & Savouries.

"Given the promising prospects offered by the segment, Anand is keen to explore airport retail and showcase its offerings to a global audience and establish a footprint in at least five airports across India by the end of the year. Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, is among the busiest airports in the country and has seen around 16.2 million passengers in FY22, making it an ideal location for Anand to tap. Given that India’s biggest cultural export to the world is its food, Anand is in a prime position to showcase the best of the country’s culinary traditions to a globe-trotting audience. This also aligns with our  vision to tap into the export market targeting APAC, GEC, Europe and the Americas in the long term," he added.

"Through its outlet at KIA, Anand aims to create a superior retailing experience for an international audience. The Bengaluru airport is a confluence of Indian culture and global exposure, which aligns perfectly with Anand’s mission to preserve Indian traditions and taste in a way that assures the highest quality and safety for products. Sakkare, from the House of Anand Sweets, is designed especially to give travellers a taste of Indian indulgence and luxury at the airport. Created as a seamless blend of Indian tradition and global quality standards, Sakkare offers both domestic and international travellers a sample of the rich culinary heritage of India with a decadent collection of sweets and other delicacies," Dadu told FnB News.

"With a view to creating a sense of delight from India’s vast and diverse culinary heritage, Anand has curated an airport exclusive Heritage Collection, which captures the unique history behind select regional delicacies and presents the best of Indian sweets in a format that highlights not only the taste, but also the social and cultural significance of the offerings. Our airport retail range includes artisanal mithais, bakery and savoury items that bring out authentic local flavours from different parts of the country, all packaged to retain the premium quality in a travel-friendly unit. Some popular offerings include Mysore Pak, Turkish Baklava, regional specialties like Benne Murukku and Gol Matri, and much more," he trailed off.
