The Advisory Committee on Novel Foods and Processes (ACNFP), which is UK's non-statutory, independent body of scientific experts that advises the UK's Food Standards Agency on any matters relating to novel foods (including genetically modified foods) and novel processes (including food irradiation), is holding an open event on novel foods in London on November 24, 2011.
The event will include presentations on the work of the Committee and give people an opportunity to discuss novel food issues, including lessons learnt on cloning and novel food ingredients produced using nanotechnologies. There will also be a brief update on the revision of the current European Commission regulation on novel foods and an open discussion with the audience. The event will be open to all.
A novel food is a food or food ingredient that does not have a significant history of consumption within the European Union before May 15, 1997.
(The closing date for applying to attend the workshop is November 7, 2011)
