India, Oman to work on World Mango Encyclopedia

An agreement on the project on the preparation of World Mango Encyclopedia has been signed between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Oman government recently.



The Deputy Director General (Horticulture), ICAR, has been designated as the nodal point with regard to this project, which envisages to prepare a universal scientific encyclopedia on the mango tree. The preparation of the encyclopedia requires, among other things, obtaining statistics, information, details and photographs of mango and related cultivars grown in India along with details on various other aspects like geographical distribution of mangoes in India, their cultural practices, information on pests and diseases, cultural and historical importance of mango.



In order to develop, promote and accelerate closer collaborative effort for the development of Agricultural Research and Education Cooperation between the India and the Sri Lanka Council for Agricultural Research Policy (CARP), a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for Scientific and Technical Cooperation between the two parties for the Work Plan for the year 2008-09 has been signed.



The Work Plan envisages short-term training of 2-3 weeks duration for more than 70 Sri Lankan scientists in the various ICAR training institutes in India over a period of two years in the various areas of agriculture, dairying, fisheries, human resources management etc. Provision has also been made to impart education to students of Sri Lanka at the post-graduation and Doctoral levels in agricultural and allied sciences. Some collaborative research projects, industry ventures in agriculture and visits of consultants in various fields of agriculture to Sri Lanka upon specific requests are also envisaged under the work plan, according to ICAR sources.



A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Union Ministry of Agriculture and the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the field of Agricultural Research and Education has been signed.



The Work Plan for the years 2009-10 was signed between the two parties to develop, promote and accelerate closer cooperation in the field of Agricultural Research and Education in the two countries. The Work Plan envisages short-term study visits/training of 2-3 weeks duration for scientists of both the countries in the various areas of agriculture, dairying, fisheries, human resources management etc. Provision has also been made for training course and workshop of Iranian scientists in India in areas of fisheries, mariculture, cold water resources management and horticulture, collaborative projects in the areas of buffalo genomics and improving the utilisation of poor quality roughages through biotechnological tools are also part of the Work Plan.



A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and the Government of the Republic of Ecuador for cooperation in the field of Agricultural Research and Education was signed recently. The selected priority areas of cooperation include Agricultural Research in Horticulture, Crop Science, Fisheries, Animal Science, Agricultural Extension, Agricultural Education, Agricultural Engineering and Natural Resource Management, it is learnt.
