fiogf49gjkf0d Griffith Laboratories, a leading player in specialty food ingredients space, is setting up an advanced production facility for manufacture of food ingredients at Doddaballapur Industrial Estate on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
Th modern facility will span across 40,000 sq ft of built-up area and locate on a five acre piece of industrial land. It has been designed to global standards. The company’s upcoming facility meets the requirements of BRC (British Retail Consortium) for quality and food safety, besides it adheres to FM Global standards for industrial and occupational safety. In addition, the facility has been built to comply with LEED Gold standard for sustainable buildings and will be going for its certification.
Speaking to FnB News, Sujesh Govindan, Director R&D, projects & process Engineering, Griffith Laboratories, elaborates, “India is a key market and a strategic sourcing and manufacturing base, with access to high qualified and committed talent. The new facility would cater to customer’s needs in India and the Middle-East, focussing on stringent food safety and regulatory compliance.”
The company, based out of the United States, is almost 100 years old and has several patents and innovations to its credit.
Its customer support and service initiatives are backed by a highly qualified team of food scientists and culinary experts which is constantly working on to bring great ideas and trends in food, from around the world, and adapting them to the needs of customers in India and the Middle-East, according to him.
Giridhar, director, purchase and sustainable initiatives, Griffith India, is optimistic,“People, Planet & Performance are the pillars that the company is built on. Griffith is strongly focussed on sustainability and integrated business practices. From helping farmers in Khammam and Guntur, to managing farm practices in the Mediterranean, the company focusses on sustainable agriculture, fair trade practices and integrated community development initiatives. For instance, farmers are trained on soil conservation, water management and safe handling of agro-chemicals under a planned programme. There are well qualified agri-professionals who support participating farmers. Supply chain inefficiencies are being addressed by programmes like one of those focussed on facilitating setup of processing centres close to the farms and agri-cultivation zones. We are committed to all our stakeholders for a better tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, according to Govindan, looking at the rather large amount of food that generally goes waste within the food supply chain, the company has helped set up the Bangalore Food Bank (BFB) as part of its community involvement programme. It has provided necessary back-end support to get the initiative started. Under this programme, food products which are relatively non-perishable are collected by the BFB and distributed to the needy. The company’s quality professionals assist in ensuring that all necessary food safety standards are met and complied with.
He observes, on a concluding note, “The food industry in India is poised for solid growth in the coming years, with our food laws being amended to stay in tune with global trends, the country is keen to attract domestic as well as foreign investments in this space. Deregulation and industry-friendly initiatives by the Government of India and state administration are also bound to help growth in this sector.”
