FAM flays meet on LBT called by Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai

Even though Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar gave assurance to Federation of Associations of Maharashtra (FAM) about forming a committee comprising FAM representatives and government officials to discuss the implementation of Local Body Tax (LBT), the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) has sent a communication to FAM about a meeting to be held in this regard. FAM is against attending the meeting called by MCGM as it does not want the civic body to be a part of the discussions.

Mohan Gurnani, president, FAM, told FnB News, “After a month-long agitation against LBT by FAM members all over Maharashtra, delegates from FAM met Maharashtra CM Chavan and NCP chief Pawar who assured us that very soon a committee comprising FAM representatives and government officials will be formed. But no concrete step has been taken in this direction.”

He added, “We will not allow the government to cheat us. Why MCGM is sending us the letter about the meeting to be held to discuss the implementation of LBT? We will oppose the meeting called by MCGM because we are totally against both Octroi and LBT.”
