Swiggy, India’s largest food ordering and delivery platform, has unveiled its delivery partner-focussed initiative, Safety First. This is a collaborative effort with Round TabIe India and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Young Indians (Yi) to conduct road safety programmes.

Through Swiggy’s Safety First, the company will enable extensive sensitisation, awareness and training of its delivery partners on the various nuances of road safety. The programme was launched in Bengaluru in the presence of V P Ikkeri, commissioner for road transport and safety, with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Swiggy, Round Table India and CII Young Indians.

Over 100 Swiggy delivery partners participated in an hour-long awareness workshop, led by professional trainers from Young Indians and the Swiggy team.

With over 70,000 delivery partners, Swiggy has the largest delivery fleet in India. Following its launch in Bengaluru, the company plans to roll out this mandatory training programme across the country.

The programme currently entails the aspects of road safety, including guidelines to ensure safer riding experience for Swiggy’s partners. There will also be emergency situation management, accident response, safety for self and emergency victims and   cardio-pulmonary resuscitation techniques.

“Our fleet of delivery partners travel hundreds of kilometres each day, as they deliver food across Bengaluru. This initiative is aimed towards making roads safer for them and the wider community,” said Sachin Kotangale, vice-president, operations, Swiggy.

“Young Indians, as a part of its national initiative on road safety, is committed towards making our roads accident-free and safe for all,” said Ajith Mathew George, co-chair, CII Young Indians Bengaluru.

“Today, road safety is a major concern with ever increasing vehicles on road. The Safety First initiative in association with Swiggy, Young Indians and RTI will definitely help in the long run,” said Dhruv Dalmia, national president, Round Table India.

“We hope more organisations come forward and do such training for safer roads. We are happy that Swiggy has taken a leading role in this regard,” he added.
