Givaudan to launch plant-based concepts at Natural Products Expo West
Thursday, 27 February, 2020, 08 : 00 AM [IST]
Anaheim
The demand for plant-based foods and products, including supplements, sports drinks and the items on restaurant menus, is on the rise, with an increasing number of people subscribing to the view that these products reflect healthier lifestyles. Givaudan will showcase its ability to answer the same at the 2020 essay of Natural Products Expo West, which is slated to take place in Anaheim, California, between March 3 and 7.

The company will do so through plant-based product concepts that increase the appeal of meat substitutes and add tangible wellness benefits to food products.

The perfect plant-based protein
Taste, texture, colour, mouthfeel, flavour and nutritional profile - these are just a handful of the many parameters involved in creating a truly tasty plant-based, consumer-friendly centre-of-the-plate product.

By combining its leading product technology and application expertise in this area with Naturex’s natural ingredients, Givaudan is poised to offer powerful integrated solutions for meat substitutes that are entirely plant-based.

During Expo West 2020, the company will be launching a new line of natural red colours designed specifically for meat substitutes: Vegebrite Veggie Reds. This new line promises to deliver a better consumer preparation experience, introducing meat-like red colour to raw plant-based patties that then turns brown when cooked.

Visitors to the booth will be able to see Vegebrite Veggie Reds in action and experience the new look of plant-based protein in a mini-burger concept. In addition to the authentic appearance, they will also be treated to an authentic real meat flavour experience, enabled by the careful application of Givaudan’s natural beef, umami and soy masking flavours.

Wellness and relaxation with botanicals
With its newly-approved GRAS (generally recognised as safe) status, Naturex has broadened the market for turmeric-based foods and beverages. Its highly bioavailable and versatile turmeric extract, Turmipure Gold, will be highlighted at Expo West through two enticing applications: a ginger yoghurt and a chai latte, both featuring Turmipure Gold extract.

Both applications will contain a single, effective 300mg dose of the extract, which delivers the same amount of curcuminoids to the blood, as 1,922mg of standard turmeric (containing 95 per cent curcuminoids), further demonstrating its high applicability in a variety of concepts.

In addition, Naturex will showcase its deep expertise in botanicals with the introduction of its new range of brewed herbal tea concentrates for mood and relaxation. These products will be highlighted in a prickly pear and hibiscus relaxing mocktail, naturally flavoured by Givaudan.

Santiago Vega, director of marketing, nutrition and health, North America, said, “We are excited to be able to offer complete plant-based solutions from the ground up. The consumer experience starts with visual appeal from natural colours.”

“A selection of natural ingredients then works together to provide the right taste, texture, and mouthfeel, while our natural preservation solutions maintain product stability throughout shelf life,” he added.

“And finally, our botanical extracts can add a wellness appeal to functional food and beverage brands looking to attract health-minded consumers,” Vega said.
