Safal launches India’s first-ever tender jackfruit in frozen veg format

Safal, the horticulture arm of Mother Dairy Fruit and Vegetable Pvt Ltd (MDFVPL) has launched tender jackfruit in the frozen vegetable format for consumers across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). This is a first-of-its kind product in India.

The brand, credited with launching frozen peas for the first time in the country way back in 1991, is also expanding its convenient, ready-to-cook range with the introduction of Easy Onions (dehydrated onions) and besan.

The tender jackfruit is directly sourced from Jharkhand and is processed in Safal’s recently-inaugurated unit in Ranchi, the capital of the eastern state, known for the cultivation of the fruit, which is of a superior quality and tasty.

The frozen jackfruits are pre-cut, taking away the hassle of peeling and removing of latex, thus saving time.

While this ensures consistent quality and round-the-year availability of jackfruit for consumers, Safal also aims at providing access to new markets to its network of tribal farmers growing it.

Safal Easy Onions contains dried onion flakes, which contain less than one per cent moisture and are equivalent to almost one-tenth the weight of fresh onions (30g Easy Onions = 300g fresh onions).

These pre-chopped and pre-washed onion flakes will benefit the consumers by reducing the cooking time and the usage of fat and fuel.

The easy-to-store, easy-to-use and easy-to-cook product, like Safal tomato puree, offers consistency in quality, price and availability.

Safal besan is available in 500g and 1kg packs.

Pradipta Kumar Sahoo, business head, Safal, Mother Dairy Fruit and Vegetable Pvt Ltd, said, “Brand Safal has always endeavoured to offer products which are hygienic and nutritious and add convenience to cooking.”

“In the space of fresh fruits and vegetables (F&V) in our country, there have been challenges of consistency in quality, availability, food safety and uniformity of pricing,” he added.

“Taking the lead, we are launching frozen jackfruit and Easy Onions for the first time in India,” Sahoo said.

“These products are aimed at easing routine cooking, while catering to the needs of today’s consumer,” he added.

T S R Murali, chief research and development (R&D) officer, Mother Dairy Fruit and Vegetable Pvt Ltd, added, “Today’s consumer leads a different lifestyle. It is the duty of food companies like us to identify the nourishment areas of our consumers and offer them the right products.”

“Jackfruit has been known for years to be very nutritional and beneficial. In our country, it is consumed both as a fruit and a vegetable. But it is often discarded from the food basket due to the hassle of cutting, the latex, etc.,” he added.

“Safal’s Frozen Jackfruit is a source of dietary fibre, and also contains the nutrients of natural fruit and vegetable like vitamins, minerals, etc.,” Murali said.

Its newly-launched range will be available at all Safal F&V outlets, besides general retail and modern retail stores across Delhi and the NCR.
