Bikanervala Foods is planning to expand its business abroad. The company is going to open its outlets in the US, Canada, Australia and the Middle-East countries. They have already outlets in Nepal and Dubai.
"We have three outlets in Nepal and two in Dubai. You know, we have monopoly in both the places. We are the first snacks food company opened outlets in Nepal," says Manish Agarwal, Director (export) of Bikanervala Foods. He also said that the company was engaged in the export business of sweets and namkeens to the same countries where they were going to open outlets.
Almost 100 years back Bikanervala Foods started its sweets and namkeens business. From generations Bikaner has inherited a vast treasure of recipes, developed and perfected by their forefathers, from traditional Indian sweets, namkeens to spices. In the 50s when India was experiencing the air of freedom, Bikaner brought in their traditional recipes and taste culture to the historic city of Delhi. And in a span of 6-7 years, Bikaner opened its first shop in the heart of the food-city Chandni Chowk and named it Bikanervala.
With their traditional, age-old recipes, their products include a wide range of mouth-watering snacks under the name Bikano. Packing in the equal amounts of expertise, quality and care, Bikano has become popular in the market.
So much so that even the multinational company Pepsi has chosen them to manufacture traditional Indian namkeens on their behalf. Besides, Bikano is also the chosen one for in-flight and in-train service of Indian Airlines and Indian Railways respectively.
"We have 30% market share in the branded namkeen. I consider that we are the largest in Delhi and NCR. We have eleven outlets, more than Haldiram," Manish claimed.
From time immemorial, sweets have an integral part of Indian hospitality. In fact, it's been a tradition to mark a joyous occasion with distribution of sweets. References to such a custom are even found in our mythological scriptures. The Indian community (all over the world) continues this wonderful practice even today. And now Bikano is here to share with the world, this fabulous aspect of India. With a wide collection of sweets, made out of the bundle of traditional recipes that the Bikanervala family has treasured for centuries. Great care has been taken to choose only those items, which can be packed for long shelf life. With a wide range of Indian Sherbets, Fruit Crushed and Thandais, "Bikano makes for more than just an ordinary drink. These are made with ingredients known to strengthen both the body and mind and are traditionally known to improve memory," the company official said.
"Last year our export touched almost Rs 3 crore. We took part in the Fancy Food Show in New York last July and got a lot of response there," Manish added.
Bikanervala developed a variety of Indian spices (mixed and matched in different proportions) to match the depth of Indian cuisine. The company official also claimed that Bikanervala is the only company in its category to have earned the prestigious ISO 9001-2000 and HACCP certificate for quality, from the Underwrite Laboratories, USA.
