Rice procurement in Kharif marketing season has crossed 270 lakh tonne

Rice procurement in the Kharif marketing season 2011-12 (October-September) has crossed the mark of 270 lakh tonne. This was stated in a press release issued by the ministry of consumer affairs, food & public distribution.
According to statistics, 2,70,30,734 tonne rice has been procured by various government agencies by March 12, 2012.
Punjab procured 77,31,325 tonne; followed by Andhra Pradesh 41,72,631; Chhattisgarh 40,85,262; Uttar Pradesh 27,88,884; and Haryana 19,76,309 tonne of rice. This procurement is 83,275 tonne more than the corresponding day of last marketing season.
