Kaati Zone slates expansion plans, looks for franchisees
Saturday, 14 November, 2009, 08 : 00 AM [IST]
Nandita Vijay, Bangalore
Kaati Zone, the leading Indian quick-service restaurant (QSR) chain owned by the East-West Ethnic Foods Private Ltd, has rolled out a total make-over initiative. It has already invested Rs 25 lakh to revamp and offer a new menu. Another Rs 13 crore is pumped in to offer different formats like  Dine-in, Delta (Delivery & Takeaway) & Express locations at airports, stations, malls, tech parks and petrol stations. It is also all set to launch operations in Mumbai. Over the next two years, Kaati Zone  will be present prominently in southern and western regions.

There will be a brand new logo and a new menu will kick-off at its flagship outlet on Church Street, Bangalore.  “Kaati Zone so far has been putting up the building blocks for growth in place, now we are at an inflection point from where we can rapidly expand. We have not yet capitalised the opportunities at Bangalore which houses all 12 outlets. Going forward, we will enter a new city with company owned stores, build the brand awareness and  provide proof of concept before moving ahead  with franchising,”  Kiran Nadkarni, Founder and CEO, KaatiZone, told F&B News in an email interaction.

“We are aggressively scouting for franchisees. We have received a very good response and are in talks with various interested franchisees from single location franchises as well as area franchises for cities,” he added.

Every region that Kaati Zone enters, it will be set up a regional commissary. For the southern region its  commissary is Bangalore, for the western region it is  Mumbai. “ The investments will depend on the strategy we adopt for each region.  We are planning to open 50 company owned outlets at an investment of Rs 13 crore. The other 50 outlets will be franchisee owned,” he added.

Kaati Zone has received a positive response for the new menu, which include Cheeseria, Jumbo Rolls, Nuggets, Fun rollers.  Changing the menu is a routine exercise to bring in variety to the menu. It will introduce a  flavour of the month, where  there is something new introduced every month on an on-going basis.

Kaati Zone is a rolls company. Its most popular product is the Chicken Tikka Kaati Roll & Mixed Veg Kaati Roll. The other popular menu items are Green Salad, Vada Pav, Chicken Nuggets, Cheeseria, & Kaju Kishmish Fun Roller.

“After our success in Bengaluru as the only QSR chain offering Indian foods in a contemporary setting, we are undertaking major expansion into other cities.  It is an appropriate time to implement our experience of last five years and feedback from our valued customers into our operations. The all-new Kaati Zone being launched today reflects our plans for the future for the brand”, said Nadkarni.

Kaati Zone is backed by venture funding from international funds like Accel Partners and Draper Investment Company, and some reputed individuals from the international venture capital community.
