The 19th Global Dairy Congress was held in Barcelona, Spain, under the theme, ‘Fit for Purpose’, bringing together dairy industry leaders from around the world. On the opening day, Dr Ignatius Szeto, vice president of Yili Group, delivered a keynote speech titled, ‘Creating Opportunities for High-Quality Functional Products’, as part of the Industry Leadership Session. In his tenth appearance on the congress stage, its presentation focused on high-quality nutrition and health solutions, highlighting new possibilities for the innovative development of functional dairy products.
During a panel discussion, Dr Szeto said, "Precision nutrition is the next key growth engine for innovation in the dairy sector. Advances in milk processing technology have made it possible to develop functional products tailored to specific demographics and health needs. At the same time, the natural nutritional benefits of dairy products give this sector immense growth potential."
As part of the congress, Dr Szeto also gave a presentation entitled, ‘Goat's Milk: Digestive and Absorption Traits and Precise Nutritional Value for the Whole Family’, in which he gave a comprehensive overview of its latest innovations in goat milk, highlighting sophisticated approaches to whole-family nutritional health.
A major highlight of the congress was the official announcement of the World Dairy Innovation Awards 2026, where it was honoured with two Winner titles as well as ten ‘Finalist’ and seven ‘Commended’ awards thanks to its cutting-edge technology and market-oriented innovations. Specifically, the probiotic ‘Changqing Lemon & Oat Popping Beads Probiotic Yogurt’ was awarded as the best yogurt, while Gonglao's ‘Hulunbuir Strain Milk Skin Yogurt’ was recognised as the best artisanal product. The award-winning products covered various categories, including adult nutrition, drinking milk, ice cream, milk powder and cream. This is the seventh consecutive year that it has been honoured at this prestigious event.
Richard Hall, chairman of the Global Dairy Congress, praised it for his remarkable ability to deliver award-winning innovations year after year, despite growing challenges in the industry. Emphasising that China's dairy sector is now at the forefront of global innovation, he pointed out that it has become a crucial driving force for the industry globally through its continuous technological advancements and precise understanding of consumer needs.
