With seven additional interventions, the Government of India has announced the expansion of its flagship Export Promotion Mission (EPM). The mission is now nearing full operational status, providing a comprehensive support system for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and first-time exporters.
The EPM, approved with an ambitious outlay of ?25,060 crore through 2031, operates via two strategic pillars: Niryat Protsahan (financial support) and Niryat Disha (ecosystem and market access). The latest expansion brings the total number of active interventions to 10, tackling the most persistent hurdles for small businesses—namely high credit costs, complex global standards, and expensive logistics.
As per Ministry of Commerce, under the new financial assistance scheme, the government is introducing -Export Factoring, and specialised -Credit Assistance for E-Commerce Exporters. These measures allow MSMEs to unlock immediate working capital by selling receivables and accessing up to 90% guarantee coverage for overseas sales.
On the non-financial side, the Trade Regulations, Accreditation and Compliance Enablement-TRACE initiative will now subsidise up to 75% of the costs for international quality certifications, such as ISO or FDA standards. Furthermore, the Logistics Interventions for Freight and Transport (LIFT) programme provides up to ?20 lakh annually to help inland exporters mitigate high transport and freight costs, ensuring that businesses in the hinterlands remain competitive.
The Ministry added that the mission adopts streamlining applications through unified digital portals. From establishing overseas warehouses via- Facilitating Logistics, Overseas Warehousing and Fulfilment -FLOW intervention to providing real-time trade analytics through -Integrated Support for Trade Intelligence and Facilitation -INSIGHT, the EPM aims to transform India’s export landscape into a decentralised, sustainable powerhouse.
