Walmart India, has opened its 26th Cash and Carry store, Best Price Modern Wholesale Store, in Nizamabad. It is the retailer’s third store in the state of Telangana. This, according to Walmart India, is the largest in the country.

Krish Iyer, President and chief executive officer, Walmart India, inaugurated the store. He said that there were already Best Price Stores in Hyderabad and Karimnagar, and plans were underway to open a fourth store in Warangal this year. The new store simultaneously got integrated with the B2B (business-to-business) e-commerce platform.

These Best Price Modern Wholesale Stores will meet all needs of underserved businesses, such as kiranas/resellers, offices and institutions (O&I) and hotels, restaurants and caterers (HoReCa) in the region, under one roof.

It will enable Walmart India to offer unique propositions of a wide range of quality merchandise and local assortment at Every Day Low Prices, unique shopping options, door-step delivery and convenient payment solutions to such business members in Nizamabad and the adjoining areas.

“The new store spans over 50,000sq ft. It will contribute to the local and state economy by creating an estimated 2,000 direct and indirect jobs. The store will also boost the smallholder farmers and regional supplier eco-system, as it will directly source from farmers and locally relevant food and non-food products from local suppliers to fulfill the needs of its members,” Iyer said.

“Besides, the new store has been integrated with sustainable solutions such as renewable energy, LED lights, water recycling through sewage treatment plant and ground water recharging through collection of storm water and waste management,” he added.

“We continue to expand our footprint in the state of Telangana with this third store within a span of four months of opening the second store in Karimnagar. This reinforces our belief in the ease of doing business under the leadership of Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao,” Iyer said.

“We source fresh vegetables like cucumber, tomato, cabbage, cauliflower and green chilli from Vantimamidi market and red whole chilli from Warangal for the Telangana stores, as well as for our stores in other states, including Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh,” he added.

Further, it will promote the growth of digital economy by encouraging members to adopt digital payments such as PhonePe etc.; contributing to environment by building sustainable operations through solar power generation in the stores, use of LED and other energy-saving technologies, electric vehicles, waste management, rainwater harvesting and by doing all of the above with focus on 100 per cent compliance with laws and regulations of the country.

Beyond business, Walmart Foundation has provided a grant to the International Fertiliser Development Centre (IFDC) to strengthen agricultural production systems in rural and peri-urban locations in Telangana, touching 30,000 farmers over a period of two years.
