Trapdoor brings immersive speakeasy experience to Versova

Trapdoor has introduced an immersive bar experience combining secret access, progressive mixology, theatrical storytelling and a six-course cocktail pairing journey. Located behind an unassuming retro telephone booth, the venue takes inspiration from the covert drinking dens of the prohibition era. Guests receive a discreet access code upon booking, which unlocks the telephone booth entrance and leads into the hidden speakeasy.

At the heart is its progressive Omakase Cocktail experience, led entirely by a team of bartenders. Rather than following a single cocktail theme, each creation has its own concept and narrative, with modern techniques such as centrifugal infusion, redistillation and sous vide used alongside gastronomy.

The cocktail menu draws on flavours associated with ancient India and combines them with contemporary European mixology. A secret box with a hidden nested chamber presents each cocktail alongside its raw ingredients, making the presentation part of the overall experience.

The cocktail selection includes Trapped in Bubble, Untouched, Mushroom, Glacier and a reimagined Martini featuring oysters. Glacier draws inspiration from Japanese Kakigori, while Mushroom takes an earthy, umami-led approach using indigenous ingredients.

The food menu complements the cocktail programme, bringing together modern Indian fusion with influences from North and South America. Pairings include Prickly Oyster with an Umami Martini, Lamb Tapas with pasillo chilli dip and a Miso and Guava cocktail, and Squid Ink Pasta with baby octopus alongside a Pistachio and Pink Peppercorn Cocktail Crème. Pan-seared Salmon with herb butter is paired with a tequila-infused Green Apple and indigenous Shankpushpi Prosecco cocktail.

The interiors continue the venue’s mystery-led concept, combining vintage English bar influences with contemporary speakeasy elements. Dark wooden textures, red lighting, intimate seating and a curated soundscape create an atmosphere designed around discovery.

It is the vision of founders Gaurav Sharma and Sangeeta Kapura, brought to life with managing partner Arka Mukherjee, director of Mixology Shobith Salian and chef Gaurav Gidwani. The team plans to build an evolving calendar featuring bar takeovers, jazz-led evenings and immersive cocktail experiences.

Mukherjee said, “Trapdoor was never intended to be just another bar. We wanted to create a world with its own personality, a place that feels intriguing when you discover it, memorable when you experience it, and compelling enough to return to. For us, this is the foundation of a larger vision for experiential hospitality.”
