Chandigarh’s buzzing café culture has a new entrant that stands apart not by being louder — but by being slower, softer, and more immersive. The Sip Society, which opened this week in Sector 10, offers a thoughtfully designed 1,600 sq ft space that shifts its mood as the day unfolds, functioning as a cozy café by day and transforming into an intimate speakeasy on select weekend nights.
By daylight, The Sip Society channels the gentle charm of English tea rooms the founders explored across London, Edinburgh and Toronto. Sunlight filters through the space, settling on velvet armchairs, wooden tables and handwritten menus that echo a sense of nostalgia. Victorian influences, Dark Academia-inspired corners, warm lighting and curated reading nooks together create a cocoon-like environment where time seems to slow down. Guests are encouraged to linger — whether over artisanal coffee, freshly baked treats or simply a quiet moment.
As the sun sets, the space transitions almost theatrically. Softer lights, a moodier soundtrack and an intimate ambience introduce the speakeasy persona, reserved for once-a-week evenings. Craft cocktails become the highlight, paired with global small plates. Many guests who arrive for tea often end up staying through sunset, drawn in by the seamless shift in energy.
“The Sip Society is a pause button in the city’s rhythm,” says business director Gurrattan Gill. “We wanted a space where mornings stretch lazily, afternoons drift, and evenings fill with conversation — where every visit feels like coming home.”
Creative Director Akarshan Brar Gill adds that the design was crafted to evolve with the day: “From sunlit corners to the warm glow of the speakeasy, every detail in light, sound and service was designed to move guests from one mood to another without realizing the transition.”
The hospitality vision is shaped by New Delhi–based The Bar Consultants, helmed by Angad Chachra and Nitya Sareen, known for Bobachee (Delhi), Masala Synergy (Gurgaon), Sol Brew House (Shimla) and the India rollout of Jamie Oliver Restaurants. Their approach integrates design, service flow, menu development and training to ensure the café-to-speakeasy transformation feels natural and intentional.
With The Sip Society, the team aims to create a place where people don’t just drop by — they stay on. From quiet morning teas to spirited weekend cocktails, it offers Chandigarh a rare, thoughtfully curated day-to-night escape.
