Enforcement teams from the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential drugs (TG SAFE) inspected 28 food establishments across the Nizamabad district, uncovering severe health and safety violations. Fourteen joint teams comprising food safety officers and police personnel carried out the coordinated inspections on November 3, targeting restaurants, sweet shops, bakeries, spice manufacturing units, and packaged drinking water plants.

Officials uncovered widespread infractions during the checks, including unhygienic kitchen conditions, dark and greasy walls, damaged flooring, and active cockroach, housefly, and rodent infestations. Inspectors also found expired food items, spoiled vegetables, rat faeces, and the illegal use of newspapers to cover food articles.

Several manufacturing units operated without proper in-house laboratory testing facilities or qualified technical staff, while packaged drinking water plants showed severe sanitation lapses.
Authorities seized and discarded 9,645 kg of unsafe food articles valued at Rs 17,28,495 across the inspected premises. Additionally, officials lifted twenty-six food samples on suspicion of adulteration for further laboratory analysis.

Four establishments operating without valid FSSAI licenses, namely Maharaja Sweet and Bakes, Panchavati Sweets, Shiva Shakti Ice Cream, and Sagar Bakery, were ordered to close immediately.

Further, the FSSAI licenses of 13 prominent businesses, including Zunaira Family Restaurant, Chappan Bhog Sweets, Hotel Qureshiya, and Sukhjith Starch Mills, were suspended with instructions to halt all business operations in the interest of public health.

Improvement and show-cause notices were issued to numerous other establishments for serious violations, initiating legal proceedings for the imposition of penalties.  Health activists have commented that the department's.

The enforcement drive underscores the administration's strict stance against food safety non-compliance as authorities continue to monitor commercial food operations across the region.
