Teli hails approval of PLI scheme for food processing sector

Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Rameswar Teli has welcomed the Union Cabinet's approval of the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for the food processing sector. He also mentioned that the ministry is committed to the empowerment of the Indian processing sector.

The PM headed a Cabinet meet and approved the PLI scheme for the processing sector recently. The MoS thanked the PMO on approval of the scheme while addressing the sector here online.

Under the scheme, Rs 10,900 crore have been set for the food processing sector and the scheme would be monitored at Centre by the Empowered Group of Secretaries chaired by the Cabinet Secretary.

The MoS said, “The scheme is aimed at making India a leading player in the food manufacturing sector at global scale. Also, the scheme is aimed at pushing Indian food products’ brand to the international market.”

He added that under this project, the scheme would facilitate expansion of processing capacity to generate processed food output of Rs 33,494 crore by the year 2026-27 with 2.5 lakh employment opportunity. Besides, it would ensure that farmers would get best prices for their agri produce.

“I would like to tell the food processing sector that our ministry is committed towards the development of the sector,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, the ministry informed that 21 projects of the Unit Scheme of the MoFPI are running with a total cost of Rs 314.17 crore and a ministerial grant of Rs 95.36 crore. The scheme is benefitting nearly 13,000 farmers and 700 people in the Surat and Navsari districts of Gujarat, which fall on the Dandi Yatra route.

This scheme of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries was initiated for strengthening and benefitting the farmers and the people around the Dandi Route.
