The Telangana government has proposed to establish a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for food processing units in Kamareddy and Karimnagar districts and has planned to encourage industrialists to set up rice and oil mills, among other food processing units.
However, as per sources, the Telangana State Processing Society and various departments are yet to receive the relevant guidelines from the government with regard to the project. They are still waiting for proper guidelines. The officials are also unsure about the impact of the movement of migrants due to Covid-19 pandemic on the project as it may hamper manpower and other facilities.
Hence, it may not be possible to start the project in coming months as it may depend on the pandemic situation as a whole. Nevertheless, the project is a great initiative in developing the state and tackling issues like unemployment.
Meanwhile, Telangana Agriculture Minister Niranjan Reddy along with Telangana Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar, has laid the foundation stone for construction of Rythu Vedikas in Renigunta of Thimmapur mandal and Velichala of Ramadugu mandal in the state.
Through, Rythu Vedikas, the farmers will be given priority and help them in finding market for their crop including value addition.
The design of Rythu Vedikas was finalised by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. Rythu Vedikas will be used to hold meetings with a group of farmers on farming, new techniques and marketing the agricultural produce. The Vedikas will also have video conferencing facilities including two rooms and a conference hall. The structure is said to be constructed on 2,046 sq ft of space in every village.
Government officials say that different varieties of crops will be cultivated in the Kharif season called Vaanakalam (rainy season) and Rabi season called Yasangi (summer season) once all the projects are completed. It will be implemented through Rythu Vedikas, which will also attract the international market.
Minister Reddy has stated that the Vedikas (platforms) will provide an opportunity for farmers to express their opinions. Crop marketing, techniques in cultivation, value addition & processing opportunities, usage of fertiliser and success stories of farmers would also be explained to other farmers through these Vedikas.
