Tamil Nadu to create model food streets at 6 major locations

The Tamil Nadu Government has decided to create model food streets at six major locations across the state. As per reports, the plan will be executed on a pilot basis and announced after consultations with the State Food Safety department officials.
The six locations will be identified for the establishment of street food hubs in the cities, including Chennai, Tiruchy, Madurai, Coimbatore, Salem, and Tiruppur.
The Government aims at making the street food hubs as examples of best practices in food hygiene, and safety and ensuring that people get clean, safe and quality food from street vendors.
Further, the TN Government also announced that the vendors operating in such locations will be eligible for credit support and financial assistance.
Additionally, the State Government is planning to introduce health initiatives for street vendors wherein health checkups and immunisation programmes will be run for vendors to reduce the risk of communicable infections.
