At the just-concluded TN Rising Conclave, the government of Tamil Nadu announced a set of strategic MoUs with prominent homegrown food companies aiming to transform regional favourites into global food brands, with Coimbatore projected as the central hub.

Under the agreements:
  • Sri Krishna Sweets will invest Rs 100 crore to build an export-oriented sweets unit along with a research facility, generating around 200 jobs.
  • Annapoorna plans to deploy Rs 300 crore for a centralised industrial kitchen in Coimbatore expected to employ about 500 people.
  • Hatsun Agro Products is committing a major Rs 860 crore to establish 400 dairy-product manufacturing units, expand cold-chain logistics, and scale up retail presence. The facility will house one of South India’s largest production lines and include R&D facilities to develop new products.
In addition, smaller players like E Star Foods Pvt Ltd and Podaran Foods have pledged investments of Rs 200 crore and Rs 310 crore respectively, for setting up tea/beverage and cool-drink manufacturing units together creating an estimated 1,300 jobs.

According to the Tamil Nadu Industries Minister TRB Rajaa, the state’s diverse culinary heritage and homegrown brands have the potential to achieve scale comparable to the likes of MTR Foods or Haldiram's. The government emphasised that single-window clearances, state incentives, and export-promotion support will be offered to these firms  signalling a clear push to make Tamil Nadu a national, and eventually global, food-products manufacturing and export powerhouse.

With this wave of investment and policy backing, Coimbatore is poised to emerge not just as a regional culinary hub, but as a launchpad for Indian food brands with global ambitions.
