On June 7, 2024, Taj Hotels North Goa celebrated World Food Safety Day with a series of engaging and educational events, thereby reaffirming their commitment to the highest standards of food safety and hygiene. The day commenced with FDA officials demonstrating and enlightening the Taj associates through mobile testing lab about common adulterants found in food ingredients and how they could be tested by themselves.
This initiative aimed to enhance awareness and vigilance among the team regarding the quality of ingredients used in culinary preparations, in keeping with the theme – Prepare for the unexpected. Following this informative session, as the hotel is an Eat right Campus; a spirited cooking contest unfolded at the Halstead Hall, featuring non- food and beverage participants from various departments across Taj Fort Aguada Goa, Taj Holiday Village Goa, and Ama Stays Goa. Under the guidance of Chef Ashutosh Shende and the kitchen team, non-chefs showcased their culinary prowess by crafting delectable dishes utilising locally-sourced ingredients.
The teams received recognition for their exceptional culinary skills that demonstrated incredible flavour profiles and innovative techniques with a story. The presence of Jyoti Sardesai, director of FDA, added prestige to the event. Sardesai commended the associates for their creativity in reimagining local dishes with a modern twist. Further, she applauded the associates for their dedication to upholding food safety standards and encouraged them to continue their commendable efforts. Adding a dash of fun and challenge to the festivities, a 'Guess Your Spices' contest that tested the associates' knowledge of local spices by providing them with a combination to identify.
In the evening, the excitement continued with an engaging game of Chopping Boards at the associate cafeteria. With great enthusiasm, associates sorted cutouts of fruits, vegetables, prepared food, and chicken, onto chopping boards of varying colours, showcasing their awareness of food categorization and protocols.
Megha Bhatia, general manager, Taj Fort Aguada Resort & Spa, Goa and Souvik Bhattacharya, general manager, Taj Holiday Village Resort & Spa, Goa, thanked everyone for their contribution in making the event a resounding success reinforcing the organisation's unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and integrity of every culinary creation.
