Surprise checks across schools in MP uncover serious safety violations

The Madhya Pradesh Food Safety Department conducted a series of surprise inspections across several schools and educational institutions in Indore, uncovering serious health and safety violations.
Following the crackdown, authorities ordered the immediate closure of two institutional kitchens.
During the inspections, officials discovered that one vendor was operating without a valid licence, while another was flagged for critical lapses in food handling hygiene. Further violations included the use of untested water for cooking and improper food storage conditions.
In addition to the closures, inspection teams collected 31 samples including pulses, mawa, flour, bread, and prepared meals, which have been sent to state laboratories for quality analysis.
Food safety officials have issued strict warnings to the management of the affected institutions, instructing them to undergo a complete overhaul of their food safety management protocols.
Authorities emphasised that institutions will face further legal action if they fail to meet mandated hygiene standards.
