The FSSAI has issued directions to the State Food Safety Commissioners to carry out enforcement measures against paneer adulteration and ensure strict compliance with the guidelines related to analog paneer.
As per reports, the direction came in a response to the letter written by Prahlad Joshi, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, to J P Nadda, Union Minister for Health, seeking intervention into the cases related to fake paneer.
Joshi wrote in his letter that concern was growing regarding the rising cases of fake and adulterated paneer being sold in fast food joints, restaurants and other markets across the country and the National Consumer Helpline was in receipt of several complaints regarding the same.
“Several complaints on the (fake paneer) issue have been registered by the consumers in the National Consumer Helpline portal, highlighting the rising trend of sale/use of fake and adulterated paneer all over the country. Consumption of such fake and adulterated items may also lead to severe and chronic health issues,” reads the letter.
The Consumer Affairs Minister requested the Health Minister to take necessary action as food safety comes under the Ministry of Health.
“As, the issue of food safety standards are governed by the Food Safety and Standards Act, I request you to take necessary measures so that food safety standards are strictly adhered to across the country,” the minister for CA wrote.
