In a major initiative to strengthen agriculture value chain, Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman will inaugurate four Farmers Training and Agro-Processing Centres in Koppal, Raichur, Ballari, and Vijayanagara districts of Kalyana Karnataka region. These projects are established with the contribution from MPLADS by Sitharaman in collaboration with NABARD. These projects are expected to enhance farmers’ income, create employment and build entrepreneurial abilities of famer organisations in Indian agriculture.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in Government of India ongoing efforts to promote self-reliance among farming communities. The projects aim to enhance farmers’ income, minimise post-harvest losses, and encourage entrepreneurship across Kalyana Karnataka. Each centre has been designed to leverage the agricultural strengths of respective districts through modern processing infrastructure, training facilities, and market linkages. These projects set up as training centres for farmers and common facilities for processing will be anchored by Farmer Producer Organisations.
Sitharaman will inaugurate four projects - Koppal (Methagal village): A Fruit Processing Centre focusing on mango, papaya, and guava, producing juice, pulp, and powder; Raichur (Jawalagera village): A Pulses Processing Unit for red gram and Bengal gram, producing Tur Dal and Chilla Mix; Ballari: A Red Chilli Processing Centre for high-quality chili powder and flakes; Vijayanagara: A Groundnut and Tamarind Processing Facility, producing peanut butter, salted peanuts, and tamarind pulp.
The projects will undertake processing, packaging, branding, and marketing of agri produce complemented by capacity-building programs in post-harvest management and digital marketing. By strengthening value chains and promoting rural entrepreneurship, these centres represent a progressive step towards economic revival and self-reliance of the Kalyana Karnataka region, turning it into a model for transformation of agri value chain in India.
