Retd I&B secretary Varma succeeds Rawat as ASSOCHAM secretary general

The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) has appointed Uday Kumar Varma, who retired from the post of secretary, ministry of information and broadcasting, Government of India in 2013, as secretary general. His predecessor, D S Rawat, stood down from the post after a tenure spanning 14 years.
Varma has extensive administrative experience at the highest levels of administration, both in the Government of Madhya Pradesh and at the Centre. Sandeep Jajodia, president, ASSOCHAM, said, “He has a proven track record in terms of efficiency and competence, and his administrative service record has been consistently outstanding.”
“I am confident that ASSOCHAM will go from strength to strength under Varma’s stewardship,” he added. Jajodia stated that during his tenure, Rawat strengthened the links between India Inc and the government and transformed ASSCOHAM, which represents businesses of all sizes and sectors, into a national and global business network.
