Global beverage giant PepsiCo has announced a major shake-up of its drinks portfolio, discontinuing nine products while moving another 21 to a ‘limited time left’ category. Though some of these variants may still be spotted on retail shelves, production has been halted as part of the company’s strategy to streamline its offerings.
According to the PepsiCo spokesperson the decision aligns with the company’s renewed focus on its three growth pillars no-sugar colas, food, and taste innovation. According to him, these categories have been the key drivers of PepsiCo’s recent market share gains and will continue to define its future investments.
The discontinued list includes multiple Mountain Dew variants, such as Caffeine Free, White Out, Kickstart flavours, and the popular Major Melon and Spark ranges. Meanwhile, flavours under brands like Bubly, Bubly Bounce, Gatorade Fit, and Gatorade Zero with Protein are now tagged as limited edition, with availability expected to phase out gradually.
This latest move follows an earlier round of cuts in June, when PepsiCo quietly pulled 14 soda flavours including Nitro Pepsi (original and vanilla), Pepsi Lime, and Pepsi Peach. Industry observers see this as part of a larger portfolio reset, where the company is moving away from niche or underperforming drinks and doubling down on products with strong consumer demand and profitability.
For retailers and distributors, the shake-up means adjusting inventories and preparing for consumer demand shifts as loyalists rush to grab their favourite soon-to-vanish flavours. For consumers, it signals the end of an era for several popular but non-core beverages.
The development underscores PepsiCo’s aggressive repositioning in a highly competitive global beverage market, where health-conscious and innovative flavour trends are driving purchasing decisions more than ever before.
