With the rollout of GST 2.0 effective from September 22, 2025, the traders, businesses and the FMCG market are expecting a new growth phase.
Experts say that the reform comes at a crucial time as the nation gears up for the upcoming festive season, creating an environment of sustainable growth for trade along with promising consumers wider choices at fairer prices.
Dhairyashil Patil, national president, All India Consumer Products' Distributors' Federation (AICPDF) said, "GST 2.0 is not just a tax reform, it is a confidence-building measure for the entire FMCG ecosystem. By ensuring that the benefit of reduced tax rates reaches every consumer, the government has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive growth. Distributors across the country stand fully aligned to implement this change smoothly, and we look forward to a stronger festive season where both trade and consumers benefit equally."
Industry insiders say that over the last 10 days, almost all existing stocks in the market have been aligned with the revised tax structure through special trade discounts and Quantity Purchase Scheme offered by FMCG companies. As a result, retailers are already offering reduced rates across product categories, ensuring that 'consumers enjoy immediate benefits' of GST 2.0 without disruption.
By the time new MRP stocks reach retail shelves in the coming days, FMCG companies have assured that the full benefit of the GST reduction will be passed on to consumers transparently and without compromise.
Trade experts added that this seamless transition has been possible due to the coordinated effort among manufacturers, distributors, and retailers, reflecting the industry’s collective commitment to safeguard consumer interest and uphold fair trade practices.
Dr. P.M. Ganeshraam, chief patron, AICPDF, added, "This reform is a landmark step towards strengthening India’s retail backbone. The timely coordination between companies, distributors, and retailers has ensured that consumers will not face any gap in pricing or availability during this transition. GST 2.0 will fuel growth, empower small traders, and bring long-term stability to the FMCG sector."
