MTR Foods & Eastern Condiments contribute Rs 2.5 crore for Covid-19 relief measures

MTR Foods and Eastern Condiments, Orkla ASA companies in India, contributed nearly Rs 2.5 crore to combat Covid-19, based on the requirements the companies witnessed in their respective states of Karnataka and Kerala.
The attributed budget has been used to fund medical equipment, support for local health services, distribution of ready meals and beverages, and other measures aimed at building long-term assets that will help Karnataka and Kerala fight against Covid-19 and beyond.
Jaan Ivar Semlitsch, Orkla ASA president and CEO, said, “While the pandemic has created unprecedented loss all over the world, India was in the grips of a devastating second wave of the virus with rise in mortality and cities facing fresh lockdowns. We monitored the situation daily and provided aids where it was most needed. Our aim was not only to provide support and create a holistic safe environment for our employees, but also for the community at large.”
In Karnataka, the company, at Udupi set up an advanced life support ambulance which is a first in the district along with a 10 bed ICU for children at District General Hospital.
In Bengaluru it supported St. Philomena’s Hospital, and JMJ Hospital, Nagawara with upgradation of Pediatric ward with equipment like ICU beds, Ventilators, Incubators, baby warmers, ECG M/c.
Speaking about the contribution, Sanjay Sharma, CEO, MTR Foods, said, “The second wave has been brutal for each one of us. Providing immediate support was the need of the hour, which we facilitated by providing our Ready to Eat Meals as food for Covid-19 affected patients in various hospitals in Bangalore. We also felt strongly that we needed to help build medical infrastructure in Karnataka that would help the hospitals combat any needs that may arise through the pandemic and even beyond. The contributions will not only bolster the existing infrastructure but will also go a long way in facilitating better care for the citizens.”
In Kerala, the company contributed to re-purpose 550 bed Covid Care Centre at Adlux Convention Centre, Ernakulam in collaboration with CII Foundation and other corporate partners. Further it also upgraded Oxygen lines and other equipment at Taluk Hospital, Idukki & Taluk Hospital Parur.

We at Eastern Condiments focused our efforts towards providing hospitals in Kerala with quality medical infrastructure to ensure meeting any community requirements during this escalating pandemic by aligning with Government initiatives.”
Kaia Bilton, Chargée d'affaires, Royal Norwegian Embassy, New Delhi, said, “The Norwegian Embassy is really pleased to see how quickly Norwegian associations and businesses such as Orkla have come together to provide Covid relief. The second wave has receded but we all continue to work towards bending the curve of this pandemic across the world. Norway and India continue to remain partners in this effort."
