Metro Cash and Carry, India’s leading organised wholesale chain, launched its maiden Metro wholesale distribution centre at Rishi Nagar, Baghpat Road in Meerut.

The new store, spread over an area of 55,000sq ft, is the second in the state of Uttar Pradesh and the chain’s 25th outlet in India.

It is expected to generate over 500 jobs for Meerut and the neighbouring regions, and will cater to over 30,000 registered customers across the city. These include over 5,000 kirana stores, apart from hotel and restaurant owners and caterers (HoReCa) and self-employed professionals.

Apart from the city of Meerut, the store will also benefit customers from neighboring markets, such as Muzaffarnagar, Khatauli, Sardhana, Modinagar, Muradnagar, Hapur and Mawana.

Arvind Mediratta, managing director and chief executive officer, Metro Cash and Carry India, said, “Uttar Pradesh is a strategic market for us. We launched our first store in Lucknow in 2016, and after its resounding success, we have been exploring various locations in the state. The launch of our Meerut store reinforces our commitment to the state of Uttar Pradesh.”

Apart from a wide-ranging assortment, business customers will also receive the facility of online/offline ordering and payment, doorstep delivery through GPS-enabled trucks, expertise and assistance from our commodity experts and a robust loyalty programme designed to make buying experience ultra-efficient and professional.

Special offerings at the Meerut outlet include over 30 varieties in rice and 22 in pulses, a wide range of Ayurvedic products, including Patanjali, and a zone dedicated to organic and wellness products, besides regional specialties at attractive prices. It will directly source fruits and vegetables from the local farmers to bolster the agrarian eco-system in the region.
