Maharashtra FDA busts fake milk racket in Mumbai

The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) Maharashtra has busted a fake milk production racket at Sahargaon, Andheri East, in Mumbai.
The officials were tipped off about the racket and a raid was organised based on information received. It was found that packages of branded milk were being filled with substandard milk.
The raids were carried out in supervision of FDA Joint Commissioner for BMC (Brihanmumbai) region Mahesh Chaudhary and other officers of FDA.
The FDA has informed that the officials have collected the samples of the milk which were sold as Gokul’s Pasteurised cow milk, Amul Taza’s Pasteurised Homogenised Toned milk, Gokul’s Pasteurised full cream milk and Amul’s Pasteurised Buffalo milk.
A total of four samples were sent for lab analysis, from the raided premises.
The lab testing showed that the milk packets were tampered with. According to reports, several packets of milk were being split-open and replaced with water, after which the packets were resealed. The process was being repeated across different places simultaneously.
Meanwhile, the seized milk worth Rs17,593 was later destroyed in the presence of FDA officials under norms specified in Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, the Maharashtra FDA said in a statement.
