LuLu Group International has undertaken a major air cargo operation to transport fresh food from India to the United Arab Emirates in order to maintain stable food supplies amid disruptions in regional logistics and shipping routes.

The retail giant arranged dedicated charter cargo flights to ensure that fruits, vegetables and other perishable products continue to reach supermarket shelves across the UAE. One of the recent consignments carried nearly 80,000 kilograms of fresh produce, transported on a cargo aircraft operated by Etihad Airways from India to Abu Dhabi.

The shipment included around 12,000 packages of fresh produce, which are being distributed through LuLu’s extensive supermarket network across the country. The initiative is part of the company’s broader strategy to reinforce supply chains and maintain consistent food availability for consumers during ongoing logistical uncertainties affecting the region.

India continues to serve as a key sourcing hub for LuLu’s food imports into the UAE. In addition to the latest shipment of fruits and vegetables, the retailer had earlier organised cargo transportation of around 80 tonnes of meat from New Delhi to support its supply network. Further consignments are also being arranged from major Indian cities including Mumbai and Bengaluru to strengthen inventory levels.

The move highlights the growing role of air freight as a contingency measure in food supply chains, especially during disruptions affecting maritime shipping routes and logistics hubs. By leveraging its global sourcing network and logistics capabilities, LuLu Group aims to ensure that essential food items remain readily available for households across the UAE.

Industry observers note that Gulf economies are highly dependent on imported food products, making efficient supply chain management crucial for food security. The company has indicated that additional cargo flights are planned in the coming days to maintain stock levels and ensure uninterrupted access to fresh food across its retail outlets.

Through these rapid logistics interventions, LuLu Group is reinforcing the resilience of the region’s food distribution network while helping maintain stability in the retail food supply during challenging times.
