Leads Genetics launches integrated centre of excellence for indigenous cattle genetics in Bareilly

Leads Genetics, a subsidiary of BL Agro Group, has inaugurated a world-class Integrated R&D Centre for Indigenous Cattle Genetics & Genomics at BL Kamdhenu Farms & Leads Genetics Headquarters in Bareilly.

The facility was inaugurated by Dr. Arun Kumar Saxena, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of Uttar Pradesh, in the presence of a high-level business and government delegation from Brazil, senior state officials, and global experts in animal genetics and dairy science.

Built across 25 acres, the centre integrates three key pillars of next-generation animal science—pathology diagnostics, genomics, and advanced reproductive biotechnology—under one roof. The infrastructure includes a state-of-the-art pathological disease testing laboratory for early and accurate diagnostics, an advanced genomic laboratory focused on breed improvement and precision breeding, and a cutting-edge IVF and Embryo Transfer (IVF-ET) lab to accelerate multiplication of elite indigenous and dairy genetics.

The project is rooted in a strategic India–Brazil collaboration formalised in December 2025 through a Memorandum of Understanding between Leads Genetics, Embrapa and Fazenda Floresta at the Embassy of India in Brasília. The initiative marks Embrapa’s first private-sector collaboration with an Indian organisation and one of its earliest partnerships in Asia.

According to company officials, the collaboration has already led to the implementation of the largest structured embryo transfer programme involving pure Gir embryos imported from Brazil, achieving strong genetic outcomes.

Representatives from the Brazilian Association of Zebu Breeders (ABCZ) and Fazenda Floresta attended the launch, underscoring the deepening agricultural ties between India and Brazil. The launch coincided with the recent visit of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to India, highlighting the growing strategic partnership in dairy development and animal science.

The integrated platform aims to drive faster genetic progress, disease-free herds and climate-resilient livestock development in India’s largest dairy state.
