The Kerala Food Safety wing is intensifying scrutiny of curry powders sold in the state in order to check for impurities and adulteration of various categories, as part of the Eat Right campaign.
Food Safety wing officials will conduct checks on FBOs (Food Business Operators) selling curry powder. The officials will collect samples of curry powders sold, and send it for testing to the state’s food testing laboratories.
If a batch of curry powder is found unfit for human consumption, then Food Safety wing officials will remove the entire batch from the market. Officials will, there after, notify the company and the seller, and legal action will be taken against both of them.
Food Safety wing officials have been instructed, to utilise mobile food testing labs for testing curry powders for various adulteration.
Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), has set fixed standards for curry powders, if any variations occur in the samples tested, then appropriate action will be taken for the same.
