Jamavar, the Indian restaurant at The Leela Mumbai, has partnered with Aaheli, the Bengali restaurant by The Peerless Inn, Kolkata, for a Bengali pop-up, which is underway at Jamavar. Available between 7pm and midnight, it will conclude on February 10, 2019.
It will begin with a range of beverages, including Sugandhi Lebur Sarbot (chilled Gandharaj lemon cooler), Aam Porar Sarbot, Dugdho Manthon or Kochi Dab-er Jall (tender coconut water). The appetisers include Mochar Chop, Piyaz Postor Bora, Pur Bhora Bhetki, Chatakdari Jalpori and Rui Macher Patishapta.
The main course will comprise Ellish Bhapa, Daab Chingri Pelobota (prawn delicacy cooked in green coconut shell), Chirantani Chitol Muithaa (Roulade of fish, poached and cooked in a golden gravy), Kochi Panthar Jhol, Kosha Mangsho, Bhalo Laga Bhetki Paturi (Steamed Kolkata Bhetki with mustard, wrapped in a banana leaf) and much more.
Vegetarians can opt for Piyaj Aloo Posto, Shuktoni (a bittersweet Bengali preparation of mixed vegetables), Dhokar Dalna, Kalyani Begun (brinjal stuffed with Bengali spices and cooked in a thick mustard gravy), Phoolkopi Rai Shorshe Palong (cauliflower and spinach cooked with mustard) or Bhapa Chanar Utshab (cottage cheese dumplings cooked in a saffron gravy).
Other items on the menu include Dhumrogondhi Ilish (boneless smoked Hilsa cooked in mustard) and Potoler Dorma (wax gourd stuffed with homemade cottage cheese and cooked with a creamy coconut gravy).
These can be complemented with Motor Shutir Kochuri, Rajokiyo Radha Ballabi, Phoolko Loochi or Tinkona Parota. The menu will also offer rice preparations, including Chingri Polao, Mangsho Polao, and classics such as Sugandhi Gobindobhog and Narkel Diye Cholar Dal.
No Bengali feast would be complete without dessert. Take your pick from a fine selection of sweet treats like Paramanno (traditional rice kheer), Gur er Rajbhog, Mishti Doi, Monolobha Maalpoa or Sandesh.
